Morocco allows visa-free entry to more than 70 nationalities (including EU, USA and UK) for stays of up to 90 days. Requirements include a passport valid for at least 6 months and a return ticket. Travelers from some countries such as South Africa or Brazil may require a visa – we can provide letters of invitation for clients with reservations.
Morocco is considered one of the safest countries in Africa, with low rates of violent crime. We recommend taking basic precautions such as avoiding dark alleys at night and not displaying valuables. As a local guide, we take care of all the logistics for our travelers to avoid common scams. Over 90% of our travelers (including women traveling alone) report feeling safer here than in many European cities.
The ideal seasons are spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November), when temperatures are mild (20-28°C), perfect for exploring the desert and cities. Winter offers pleasant days in the desert (15-20°C) with cool nights. We recommend avoiding August when Marrakech can exceed 45°C. The best season for the desert is from November to April.
Important rules include dressing modestly (especially women in rural areas), avoiding public displays of affection beyond holding hands, and bargaining politely in souks (start negotiations at around 30% of the initial price). Accepting mint tea when offered is considered polite, as it symbolizes friendship.
Essentials include modest clothing (covering shoulders and knees in the medinas), comfortable walking sandals plus hiking shoes for varied terrain, and a universal adapter (C/E type plugs). We recommend leaving room in your luggage for souvenirs such as spices, carpets and ceramics.
Although English is understood in tourist areas, learning some basic phrases is appreciated. Key phrases include “Shukran” (Thank you), “La shukran” (No thank you), and “Bslama” (Goodbye). All our tours include English and Spanish speaking guides to eliminate language barriers.
